OUR FASHION DESIGN PROGRAM

At Hearts and Crafts Studios, we are committed to fostering creativity while promoting sustainability. In our fashion design program, we emphasize transforming recycled clothing into new, inspired creations. By empowering individuals to repurpose materials, we reduce waste and celebrate the beauty of sustainable fashion, nurturing both artistic expression and a greener future.

Our Fashion Design Program support and encourage future designers to develop their personal aesthetic.

In this class students will learn:

To sketch their designs and create a story board of inspiration for their collection.
To draft patterns of their designs.
To measure and fit themselves and their show models.
To choose, fold and sew different and/or appropriate fabrics for a specific look.
To hand sew as well as use a sewing machine.
To plan, sequence and develop a fashion show concept.
To accessorize and plan make-up & hair looks for show models.
To work with a photographer to orchestrate a photoshoot that highlights their hard work design aesthetic, and show concepts.
To collaborate with their entire fashion team to create final looks (hair, make up, models)
To create and showcase a final fashion show concept with their peers in their community.

Developmental skills children further develop from learning to sew....

Fine Motor Skills: Enhances hand-eye coordination through threading, stitching, cutting, and manipulating fabric.
Cognitive Skills: Develops problem-solving abilities while planning, measuring, and adjusting projects as needed.
Creativity & Imagination: Encourages self-expression and multidimensional thinking when creating unique pieces.
Mathematical Skills: Reinforces concepts such as measurement, symmetry and spatial awareness.
Patience and Focus: Builds concentration and perseverance as children complete collection creations.
Responsibility and Independence: Promotes accountability by following instructions and managing both time and tools responsibly.
Confidence and Self Esteem: Provides a sense of accomplishment when projects are completed.
Social Skills: Encourages collaboration and communication when participating in group sewing settings.
Practical Life Skills: Teaches useful, lifelong skills in clothing repair, customization, and sustainability awareness.
